Our training package

As previously stated in earlier pages, some organisations will tell you "you can become a fully qualified Driving Instructor within 16 weeks". We feel it is worth pointing out some of the reasons why this is impossible. Firstly in order to start your training you need to be accepted on to the ADI Register. This is done by applying to the Driving Standards Agency or use the link here. This process can take 6 weeks alone. Secondly, the Part 1 exam has about a 2 week waiting time, Part 2 has a 6 - 8 week waiting time and Part 3 can be up to 8 weeks dependent on the test centre you are attending. So adding all of this waiting time up comes to 22 weeks at worse case scenario! So 16 weeks from start to finish is just unachievable.

Our Driving Instructor Training Course has therefore been tailored in such a way that it fits around the DSA's exam schedule. This minimises any 'idle' periods in training whilst waiting for a test date. The flexibility of our part-time Driving Instructor Training Course also allows students to manage their training around any other full or part-time commitments they may have. Bearing this in mind, it will inevitably take a number of months to fully qualify. However, if you train with DTC, you will be allowed to operate and earn money as a trainee driving instructor after you have passed the Part 2 exam and you have carried out the mandatory 40 hours of Part 3 training. Although not essential, this would enable you to get up to six months part-time or full-time practical experience in preparation for the Part 3 test.

The DTC Driving Instructor Training Course is made up of three separate elements, one for each Part. As you will see from the information in this website, the courses provide well over 200 hours of home study and practical in-car training in total spread over a few months on a part-time basis. Our course incorporates state-of-the-art open learning materials, local and central support via phone, fax, email, and internet support forum combined with local in-car training from a fully qualified DSA ORDIT Approved Driving Instructor Trainer.
